Huawei starts rolling out Android 8.0 Oreo with EMUI 8 for Mate 9 and Mate 9 Pro

Huawei kicked off an Android Oreo beta program for the Mate 9 and Mate 9 Pro about two months ago and promised the final version of the update would be launched very soon. It looks like today is the day Mate 9 and Mate 9 Pro users are getting the long-awaited Android 8.0 Oreo update.

The roll-out of Android 8.0 Oreo with EMUI 8.0 has just started in China, but the update will be slowly released in more regions in the coming weeks. One other thing worth mentioning is the update is available for the Porsche Design version of the Mate 9 as well.

The new EMUI 8.0 based on Android Oreo brings some of the unique features that have been implemented by Huawei inside its newest flagships, the Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro, so expect some nifty AI-related features, a digital assistant, and much more.

Moreover, the Projection desktop mode that comes pre-installed on the Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro is part of the update as well, so you'll be able to connect your Mate 9 series phone to a TV or monitor whenever you need a bigger display.

Finally, Huawei is expected to release a similar update to the P10 and Honor V9, but these updates are still in beta, so you'll have to wait a bit more if you own one of these devices.
