Unlike most of Samsung's top phones, one of the former Galaxy Note flagships (2012's Galaxy Note II) has not yet received an Android 5.0 Lollipop software update. Despite the severalclaims that the device will eventually receive a refreshed TouchWiz interface with Lollipop on board, we now stumbled upon a contradictory statement, according to which the S Pen flaunting gladiator won't receive the sweet new take on Android. In a blog post on Facebook yesterday, Samsung Gulf, a branch of the giant that is operating in the Persian Gulf, clearly stated that the Galaxy Note II won't be receiving any Lollipop update whatsoever. The statement was in response to a question by a user.
While the claim leaves little room for interpretation, we should mention that it's not clear whether Samsung Gulf is referring to the version of the device that was sold locally or one of the international versions of the device (as a reminder, the Note II was available in both an LTE version and a 3G-only one).
We reached out to Samsung Gulf for further details, but we had received no answer at the time of writing. Thus, we'd take this statement with a grain of salt. Hopefully, the Note II won't become yet another popular Samsung device from the old days that won't receive the freshest Android variation - the 3G-only Samsung Galaxy S III model, for example, didn't receive Android 4.4.x KitKat.
Fortunately, you can always resort to custom Android ROMs.
