2019 iPhone XR to support faster LTE speeds thanks to updated antenna layout
Apple iPhone XR

Due to the iPhone XR’s current antenna design, the budget flagship doesn’t perform quite as well as the premium iPhone XS line when it comes to LTE connectivity. With the 2019 model, however, this could all change.

According to a research note by Barclays, the iPhone XR’s successor will include the same 4x4 MIMO (multiple-input, multiple-output) antenna layout that is currently found inside the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max. Essentially, this means that rather than including just two antennas like the current-gen model, the 2019 iPhone XR will feature four separate antennas.

These additional antennas mean the next-gen iPhone XR will include two extra data paths. In layman’s terms, this means the smartphone will be capable of transferring more data simultaneously, thus allowing for improved LTE data speeds.

Aside from the updated antenna layout, the 2019 model is also expected to feature a new dual-camera layout on the rear that’ll make use of a main 14-megapixel sensor and a secondary 10-megapixel camera complete with a telephoto lens.

Completing the smartphone’s setup will likely be an upgraded processor, a smaller notch, and potentially thinner bezels, although the LCD panel will be retained.
