Meizu M5 Note goes official: strong-ish specs for the smaller budget
After plenty of build-up, the Meizu M5 Note is now official. As expected, it carries a relatively strong array of internal hardware, and a rather tidy outer profile to boot.

The display is a 5.5-inch, 2.5D, 1080 x 1920 curved glass affair. Though not among the ranks of the quad-HD panels we see throughout the higher tiers of the smartphone industry, the resolution should be okay for those content with a strong, if not cutting-edge experience. The M5 Note offers fairly standard mid-range fare, with a 1.8 GHz Helio P10 and 3 GB RAM / 16 GB storage at base level. For those willing to pay extra, there's a 3 GB RAM / 32 GB ROM model on offer, while the highest variant gets 4 GB / 64 GB. Prospective M5 Note owners seeking versatility will be able to benefit from further expansion via the dual-SIM hybrid tray, which can host either two SIM cards or one SIM with a microSD.

Elsewhere, there's a 13-megapixel camera with dual-tone LED and PDAF, along with a 5-megapixel selfie shooter. The device also packs a fingerprint sensor, a 4000 mAh battery and the usual array of connectivity including 4G with voLTE, Bluetooth and GPS (though no NFC). Software is taken care of by Google's Android 6.0 Marshmallow with the new Flyme OS 6.0 custom overlay.

As for the form factor, it measures in at 153.6 mm x 75.8 mm x 8.1 mm and weighs 175 grams. Available in either champagne gold, silver, blue or gray, the 3 GB RAM / 16 GB storage Meizu M5 Note has a price tag of 899 Yuan, or $130 US. The 3 / 32 GB model arrives at 999 Yuan ($145), while the 4 / 64 GB version is considerably steeper at 1499 Yuan ($218).
